The news filtered through during the morning that there had been serious flooding throughout Yorkshire and that the M1 in that region had been closed. The closure had actually taken place yesterday, shortly after I had driven through the area. There were fears that a bank was going to burst and damage the motorway nearby. The newscaster said that the motorway was likely to be closed for a number of days as the rains were set in for quite some time.
So periodically during the day I checked the weather reports and news reports, things didn't look like they were going to change so I spoke to a number of the locals to work out what alternative route I could take.
As it was things had not gone so smoothly today and another late night meant that I was going to have to come back tomorrow. My fears of not making it back in time resurfaced and were redoubled by the news that the alternative route I had planned was also affected by flooding. I was to be trapped over 300 miles away from where I desperately wanted to be...
